Librarians
June, 2008
Dear Principal,
We need your help to keep Canada’s children reading this summer! Please tell your staff and students about the TD Summer Reading Club 2008. This program encourages children to discover the magic of reading and welcomes them and their families to enjoy the free resources available at their local library. We really appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about this program by making our colourful TD Summer Reading Club invitations available to your students.
Our TD Summer Reading Club theme this year is humour and is entitled LOL for Laugh Out Loud. The action begins July 2nd just after the Canada Day holiday but all library branches will be ready for the program materials in June. Every child who joins this free program will receive a poster, sticker and activity booklet. All they need to do to join the Club is drop by their local library and register. For details of summer author visits and other library programs please consult with your local library.
The TD Summer Reading Club is committed to cultivating the library habit and a love of reading in all children in every neighbourhood of the city. What better way to help accomplish this than to get every child to visit his or her library this summer!
Please find enclosed with this letter, invitations to be distributed to each child in Grades 1 to 6. It would be greatly appreciated if an invitation could be distributed with each report card at the end of your school year.
Thank you for helping to make this year’s TD Summer Reading Club 2008, LOL (Laugh Out Loud) a great success!
Yours in reading fun,
Doug Rimmer,
Assistant Deputy Minister
